Day 202: The Dreaded Plateau

For the past couple of months, I’ve been hovering right around 230–235 lbs. Just stuck there. I didn’t worry about it as much at first because we were on our big trip and I was dedicated to enjoying the trip and the food we encountered, but after I got back things weren’t moving. Overall, some days a little down, some days up again. And then I started to really feel that old, familiar food noise creeping back in. Not screaming, but talking loud enough. It was frustrating—especially after so many weeks of momentum.

I knew this was a plateau. I’ve read enough Reddit threads to know I’m not alone. Dozens of people hit a wall somewhere between 20–40 lbs lost, I was lucky it was around 70 lbs for me. It doesn’t mean the medication stopped working. It doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It’s just part of the deal. But it still kinda sucks.

After talking with my doctor, we decided to bump me up to the 12.5 mg dose. Sadly, the vials still aren’t available at this dose yet, so I had to go back to the auto-injectors. (RIP to my little vial routine, we had a good run.) The crazy part is that after I talked with my doctor, but before starting the higher dosage, the scale started moving again. Slowly—but moving and the food noise quieted back down. It’s not gone, but much quieter. I also started working out harder/more frequently. Not like, “crush it at the gym six days a week” harder—just more intentional movement, heavier weights, more sweat with consistency.

If you’re in the middle of a plateau, I just want to say: you’re not broken. You didn’t mess it up. Plateaus are normal. Your body is adapting and recalibrating. Stay consistent. Talk to your doctor if the hunger starts to return. And remember—progress isn’t always linear, but that doesn’t mean you’re not moving forward.
