Day 185: Vials & Needles

After seven months on Zepbound auto-injectors (pictured here) paying around $650/month through the pharmacy savings program I finally made the switch to vials. They just hit the market, and I got mine through Lilly Direct for $500/month. I’m really glad to see the 7.5mg and 10mg doses added to their direct buy program and hopefully they will add 12.5 and 15mg doses soon.

Let’s talk needles first – it’s really really easy. The needle is teeny tiny (I use a 31G 5/16” insulin syringe) and the whole process is wildly easy. Like, it takes less time than brushing my teeth. You just draw up the dose, swab the vial and your skin, and go. That’s it. The injection itself is smooth and barely noticeable. I’ve had more pain from mosquito bites, not kidding!

And here’s the kicker: there’s extra serum in the vial. Each vial is labeled as 10 mg, but there’s overfill so you can get ~11mg out of it. The auto-injectors don’t let you access that extra amount, but with the vials, it’s all yours.

If you’re on Zepbound and considering the switch, don’t be scared of the needle. I promise it’s not a big deal. If anything, it’s empowering—another step in taking control of this process and making it sustainable.
